Join behavior specialist Nicholas Larson, MA, CBIS, as he discusses the messages behind behavior during this free one hour webinar.

Establishing the "why" of an individual's behavior is important because such behaviors often seem completely "out of the blue," or "without rhyme or reason." However, a variety of tools, questions, and mindsets can help identify patterns of behavior and guide interventions to effectively address them. This presentation will cover basics of the function-based approach to behavior. Various, brief examples will illustrate techniques for identifying an individual's needs, and the degree to which those needs are being met before, during, and after they engage in challenging behavior. This information can then be used to decrease challenging behavior, increase more desired/socially appropriate behavior, and otherwise support the individual across a variety of situations.

After attending you will be able to:

  • Identify the four basic functions of behavior.
  • Identify three tools/techniques for identifying functions.
  • Correctly identify when functions of challenging behavior are (and are not) being met by replacement behaviors.
